Opening Your Shift

Start of Day Procedure - Opening Your Shift

Skill Level: Beginner

Time Required: 2-3 minutes

Purpose

This guide explains how to start your day on MyFoodFast POS, including logging in and setting up your cash drawer with an opening float.

Before You Start

  • Your terminal must be powered on and connected to the internet
  • You need your staff PIN to log in
  • Have your opening float ready (the starting cash amount for the drawer)

Understanding the Shift Button

The header button shows your current shift status:

Button Color

Label

Meaning

Red

"Start Shift"

No active shift

Green

"End Shift"

Shift is active

Steps to Start Your Day

Step 1: Log In with Your PIN

  1. Launch the MyFoodFast POS app on your terminal
  2. Enter your 4-digit staff PIN using the keypad
  3. Tap Sign In

Tip: If your store uses clock in/out, you'll be prompted to clock in when entering your PIN.

Step 2: Enter Your Opening Float

When you navigate to the order screen, the Opening Drawer dialog will appear automatically if no shift is currently active.

  1. The dialog will display a numeric keypad
  2. Enter your opening float amount (e.g., 50.00 for £50)
  3. Tap Start Shift

Note: You cannot dismiss this dialog without entering an amount - a shift must be started before you can take orders.

Step 3: Confirm Shift Started

Once your shift starts:

  • A success message will confirm your opening float amount
  • You'll be taken to the order screen, ready to process sales
  • The header button will change from red "Start Shift" to green "End Shift" - confirming your shift is now active

Multi-Terminal Stores

If your store has multiple terminals:

  • All terminals share the same shift - When the first terminal starts a shift, all other terminals will use that same shift
  • Only one opening float is entered for the entire store (from whichever terminal opens first)
  • Shift data shows combined totals from ALL terminals - sales, payments, and orders are aggregated store-wide
  • Any terminal can perform the Z-Read to close the shared shift at end of day

What's Included in Shift Data?

Data

Scope

Sales Summary

All orders from all terminals

Cash Payments

All cash payments from all terminals

Card Payments

All card payments from all terminals

Order Count

Total orders across all terminals

Refunds/Voids

All refunds and voids from all terminals

Important: When performing Z-Read, remember that the expected amounts reflect the entire store's activity, not just the terminal you're using.
